Girls and Computers Don't Mix
The UK has an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills shortage. Women are very poorly represented in ICT based study and employment. Recent figures suggest that as little as 20% of the people on ICT-related degree courses and in ICT-based jobs are women.
Experts believe that negative perception at an early stage prevents capable young people taking advantage of the challenges and rewards available in the IT industry. After the age of 13 or 14 these attitudes are too deeply entrenched to change.
